La Duquesa lies 12 kilometers west of Estepona, near to the beach town of Sabinillas and not far from the interior village of Manilva. It is a mostly contemporary "suburb" of Manilva municipality, centered on a serene harbor. It has created a large expat population, a strong real estate market, and a diverse range of attractions for people of all ages in recent years. With large expanses of beach and a magnificent mountain backdrop, it's a comfortable 30-minute drive to Gibraltar and 45 minutes to Málaga (through the tollway). Although it is no longer a "best-kept secret," many drivers passing through on their route to Sotogrande (or Estepona in the opposite direction) are unaware of the turn-off.
